Worth of women should no more be defined by any customs of society

The toxic patriarchy never failed to depict the culture of India towards its daughters

India is a nation of spirituality. Here people worship Goddesses Laxmi for wealth & happiness. When a girl is being born on its land, ‘Mahalaxmi’ is being remembered either with smiles or worries on the faces of its citizens.

The fact is no more hidden that women are socially being deprived of their status. This is one of the most important reasons that despite being a developing country, India lacks the ratio of women to fill the seats in its economical and political areas.

Regardless of her educational qualification and financial position, a woman is always marked as inferior in male-dominated Indian society. Despite good education, many adolescent girls are still at greater risk of losing their self-dignity. The brutal patriarchy deprives them of their fundamental rights. Education is the only weapon that would prevent such circumstances from happening but the harsh truth is that people choose to spend money on marriage rather than educating their daughters.

"The idea of feminism was first liberated through literature. It mentioned that the social deprivation of women limits them from free-thinking. Women are filled with enormous innovative skills. Once the glass ceilings made for them get shattered, their threshold level to liberate more productivity and conceptual matters would get exceed."

Dowry has become the unsacred pillar for constructing the sacred bond

In India, marriage has become a trade in the form of dowry. The worth of women in the bureau of marriage is like a financial budget for many.

According to NCRB data, India has become the most insecure country for women then gives additional worth to the belief of people that girls are liabilities rather than assets. Most Indian parents decide to get their daughters to marry at a very young age. They are forced to spend lots of money on the marriage to prevent their daughters from becoming a victim of any form of violence.

Dowry has now become a legacy that compels generations to adopt it as a trend. No wonder that even today people can be seen with more dramatic skills of bargaining while dealing with this dowry system.

"The unseen future always comes with a hint but people choose to ignore those due to the patriarchal influences of society."

How well the dowry plays role in the life of women?

The banal consequences of dowry are mostly meant for the woman who gets married. Instead of speaking against the violence, many women get adopted to the pattern of living an abjected life due to the compelled cultural practices.

A woman’s dream of having a happy married life gets drown with the intensified waves of the dowry. The happiness of women gets weighed with all the materialistic things around the world. When the greediness of people gets unfulfilled domestic violence against women takes place. Unfortunately, the fear to deal with dowry sometimes results in the form of feticide in major parts of the nation. Human beings are compelled to act inhumanly towards a baby girl and even to the mother who gave her birth.

Nowadays, women with financial independence can be seen in the top merit list of marriage bureaucracy. Their independence becomes a source of income for someone and then it takes no time to get the power of such women squeezed in all aspects.

Our efforts can only make our dream of equality happen!

Though countless traditional customs and practices seem to have lost on the way as they were unable to get adapted in the changing diasporas yet the concept of 'Dowry' has its firm existence in society. Still many regions of our nation are obsessed with the dowry system. We should learn to quit the marriage proposals approaching us with unending desires. Marriages done in an indecisive manner are no more made in heaven. Women should not be conditioned to stay silent with an expectation to keep their marriage safe.

We all are human beings living with an uncertain future but at the same time, we possess endless greediness for wealth. We should value the emotions of one another. Getting committed to the welfare of society, promoting humanity, making people aware of the existing legal system, and protesting each time against the contagious trade of dowry will help in bringing a change in our society, especially bringing gender discrimination to an end.
